Also, here’s my 2 cents about making friends with a printer (numero 17 of The 50): Ask your printer for a tour, meet the people who will be handling your jobs. Each person; not just your salesperson. Meet the art department (we like cookies), meet the platemakers and pressmen, pop in to say hello to the shipping and customer service people (the unsung heroes, as it were).
Learn who does what and ask questions (we REALLY don’t mind). If you have a shipping delay and need a tracking number, maybe don’t email the prepress/art department (we are busy watching this on our giant 27″ Macs, anyway) – instead, call or email the customer service person assigned to you. Yes, usually, you get your own CSR. Pretty sweet, I know. Most of all, BE NICE – and did I mention we like cookies?
