here i am, with cake

Did everyone have a nice weekend? It was Easter weekend for those that celebrate. As usual, I hadn’t really planned on doing anything major for the holiday. After goofing off with Mac and the cat for most of the day on Saturday (photo evidence: instagram), I decided to make a bunny cake. It’s one box of Gluten Free yellow cake mix (Pillsbury), two 8″ cake rounds, cream cheese frosting (1 and 1/2 cans), sweetened coconut flakes (one bag), Hershey’s dark chocolate eggs (for the eyes) and I put mini M&Ms inside the ears as a surprise (click gallery above for enlarged view).

This cake is very sweet and you need to drink a glass of cold milk with it, for sure. I put a slideshow on my instagram to show the construction. Next time I’ll make the Gluten Free Chocolate cake mix…I would have preferred carrot cake – because that’s my favorite – but I could only find the yellow and chocolate flavors. Oh well. Cake is CAKE. I didn’t really need to dress up for Easter dinner with my friend on Sunday, but I decided to wear a dress anyway and lipstick. Which is pretty rare for me. I kinda hate lipstick, it’s a texture thing.

There was so much cake leftover that I brought it to work the next day. I tend to get embarrassed with compliments (introvert alert) but I did pretty well with the “thanks for the cake” and “that cake was goooood” comments and I felt like the bunny brightened everyone’s Monday just a little.  Cake has a tendency to do that, you know.

It was a fun Thanksgiving holiday! I spent a few days in Tampa at my sister’s house and ate turkey with cranberries, and even some pumpkin pie. My niece, Emma, and I made a gingerbread house, origami stars and pom pom garland. There is glitter on everything. My sister, Rachel, got me a really neat book… Doodling with Jim Henson, I love it.  AND A MUPPET BABIES COMIC (what, I KNOW!)

The dogs ran around the back yard and Mac also lounged solo on the sunny patio. The traffic (5 hour drive) was decent. My car had mechanical issues a week before Thanksgiving so I was a little anxious about my trip, but that little car ran like a champ even when we got stuck for an hour on the highway.

I decorated my tiny townhouse before Thanksgiving so that it would be all Christmassy when I got home from my sister’s house. Last night I made my own paper star ornament and some pom pom garland to hang in the archway that leads to my dining room. The only thing I’m waiting for now is the wreath I ordered a couple weeks ago (school fundraiser). I’ve consumed so much hot cocoa the last few days that I’m afraid my tongue is permanently burned. The weather here is too mild still to call it “winter”. I like it chilly and there are plenty of smooshy blankets at the ready in my closet under the stairs.

I love this season!

Trepuntozero civette sul comò

Trepuntozero civette sul comò, that means “Threedotzero little owls on the dresser”

This shop has been on my radar for a couple months. ADORABLE. I love the Jackalope to pieces! Pretty much anything tiny and felt and freakishly adorkable is going to get my vote. But, hey… I’m socially and politically conscientious that way. (woohoo! 2 points to me for spelling conscientious correctly the FIRST time)

Hey, it’s Friday, any small victory accepted.
